Joining the Navy

So I already wrote about joining the military and why I chose the Navy, and as I wrote before, I was talking to the Army, which, unfortunately, didn’t work out, so that’s when I considered talking to other branches of the military. What was strange about talking to the Navy is there were no recruiters at the recruitment office a couple of doors down from the Army office, so I went to a Navy recruitment office a couple of miles away. This is strange because that office was very busy at one time. Was it the time of the year? Possibly. But the reason I mention this is because I had a friend who joined the Navy several years ago from that office.

When I was trying to join the Army, I told this friend about it, and he replied telling me that I should have told him, which sounded kind of weird to me. It’s not like he was in the Navy anymore, and I didn’t see how, and he didn’t explain how, letting him know would benefit him or me.

When this friend was in the process of joining the Navy, we were going to karate classes and the gym, so we’d go to the gym pool and practice swimming because he didn’t really know how to swim, and I knew how to swim, but not lap swim, so I taught him what I knew and did some additional research to get better at swimming.

During this time, this friend was still smoking marijuana and he wasn’t supposed to, and it’s not like I’m ratting him out, because I’m not, because this is actually very well known information. I recall one time he told me he put someone else’s urine in a microwaveable container, and microwaved it before one of his many Navy recruiter drug test. Also during this time, I was preparing for an interview and I was super stressed out, and I jokingly said that if I don’t get this job that my life is over. A couple of weeks later, we went to Yosemite … … “Falls,” as another friend would say. At Yosemite, I saw him smoke weed, which was shocking to me, so I scolded at him, and he told me that hurt his feelings.

So why am I mentioning this friend. Well, because from what I’m gathering, my suspicions tell me this guy had a major influence on the Navy, and it’s taken me some time to realize this.
